We carryout many projects and research worth crores inside our campuses on various aspects of technology. However, rarely any research project comes from the door of the premises in the form of technology that can benefit our society except in the form of journal or conference publications. Publications are indeed an important part of knowledgeable society to create knowledge, however, it addresses only one aspect of society needs. There is a need to broaden our education and research approach to include societal aspirations and needs besides an understanding of technology (means of production). Hence, it is imperative to provide exposure and trainng to enable the design ideas to take the shape in the form of technology and products. Such an endeavour may require highly porous boundaries between established disciplines and design, and an innovative academic process capable of reflexivity and self-interrogation.
This Product Design and Innovation workshop intended to provide necessary training and exposure to participants on product design processes, failure analysis, intellectual property rights etc. to enable them to think on innovative ideas and how to carry forward their ideas to the product level. Since India is moving towards “Make in India” policy this workshop aims at providing necessary skills to the participants would enable to think independently in terms of creativity and innovation. Unless we are exposed to the latest technology and design processes, developing new technology would be challenging in the times of fast changing world. Exposure is paramount for developing skilled graduates and future technologies. With the conviction that technological innovation constitutes an essential element for achieving progressive development and permanent improvement in any activity, this workshop would provide necessary training and exposure on product design and innovation.
