National Workshop on Turbomachinery Aerodynamics: Design and Optimization using CFD 21-24 June 2013, IIT Mandi, Himachal Pradesh http://www.iitmandi.ac.in/workshopcfd/
Event successfully completed. Thanks to all the participants
WHY “Bridging Skill Gap” Workshop Series?
India, similar to any other nation in this world needs 3 assets to make itself successful, viz., Financial Assets, Material Assets and Human Capital. Even though we have ample of land and material assets; the major challenge we face today is human resource development. We, at GearedOx believe in helping our nation to overcome this challenge. GearedOx is an Educational Startup from IIT Mandi.
Lack of proper human resource development opportunities is the major cause for poverty, unemployment, corruption and even low productivity. It’s time when we should come together and make BRIDGES to compensate this human resource development GAP. This "National Workshop on Turbomachinery Aerodynamics: Design and Optimization using CFD" is an small step towards this mission.
HOW can you benefit from this workshop?
1. Technical knowledge The workshop will be focusing on advanced theoretical fundamentals of turbomachines with industrial practices using CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) and FEA (Finite Element Analysis) tools. The 4 day workshop will be full of practical hands-on industrial experience together with interactive sessions with experts from industry and professors from IITs.It is primarily aimed for:
Students, Faculty and Industry professionals
Apart from academia, industry professionals working in defense, automotive, aerospace, energy etc. sectors would benefit from the workshop. The workshop will be focusing on advanced theoretical fundamentals of turbomachines with industrial practices using CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) and FEA (Finite Element Analysis) tools. The 4 day workshop will be full of practical hands-on industrial experience together with interactive sessions with experts from industry and professors from IITs. It is primarily aimed for members from academia (students, research scholars, faculty etc.) and industry professionals engaged in R&D, design, analysis and development activities. Attendees of the workshop will benefit by enhancing their CAE skills in the field of quality mesh generation, Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), Finite Element Analysis (FEA) etc. along with networking opportunities. Design and analysis competition will also be conducted and winners will be given free software and training by industry experts.
According to the report by FICCI, “Although India's higher education system contributes about 350,000 engineers and 2.5 million university graduates annually to our workforce, yet at any given time about 5 million graduates remain unemployed. A survey done by McKinsey Global Institute shows multinationals find only 25 % of Indian engineers employable.” This workshop aims at imparting specialized skills that is needed in industry and thus reducing the skill gap. Students, faculty and engineers will equally benefit from the workshop.
2. Discovering nature IIT Mandi is the only IIT located in Himalayas where scenic and beautiful places are bound to create a life-long endearing memories. It is surrounded by marvellous mountains with Uhl River flowing through it creating melodious auditory sensation. Kullu-Manali, the famous tourist destinations, are hours’ drive from Mandi. You can spend your quality time with your family away from the hustle-bustle of the hot summer city in a snow-laden serene mountains. Manikaran is yet another nature’s miracle, on the way to Kullu-Manali. It is famous for hot-cold spring coming at the same location with temple and Gurudwara built side-by-side. Foods are cooked in hot spring and found to have medicinal effects for curing skin related diseases if you take a holy-dip. There are many tourist destinations like Parashar lake, Rewalsa lake, Dharamshala or Shimla to name a few.
You need to plan your visit in advance if you wish to combine your workshop tour with your sightseeing tour since June is a peak season for tourists. We advise you to club your sightseeing tour after the workshop. The workshop will end on 24th June (Monday). You can start your journey from Tuesday morning. We bet, you will see breath-taking sights while traveling itself. Stay few days at Manali and few days at Manikaran. Free stay and food at Manikaran is profivided if you plan to stay in Gurudwara. There can be many combinations. Hence, come with additional vacation in hand to enjoy your techno-adventurous trip.
If you want any help from the organizing committee, you need to inform us in advance. We will arrange taxi and other logistics for your post-workshop sightseeing trips to make your journey confortable and memorable.
